The Americans have realised they overplayed their hand . " It is getting late " , " great countries will solve it" sound like feelers to get a deal done quickly. Hopefully the Americans have understood what India's red lines are and will less maximalist in their demands now. Nothing can be predicted for certain, but there is a high likelihood that an agreement would be made in the next couple of months after both leaders have satisfied their domestic constituencies that they fought hard and got the best possible deal for their countries.

One problem with stupid people is that they think in terms of binary outcomes - like Trump will either give India everything or nothing. In the real
world , there are infinite possibilities over a continuum of outcomes.hsre

You don't seem to understand that what is going on is a staged negotiation where both sides are staking out positions. Trump's original plan was to dangle the threat of tariffs and Pakistani oil discoveries to force India to fully open up dairy and agriculture and stop buying Russian oil. Then to use the leverage obtained over Russia to force the Russians to stop the war in exchange for territory and economic incentives that would bring Russia closer to the West. Then, having isolated China , to force China to agree to a trade truce on American terms and to get security guarantees for Taiwan.

Though the gambit with India has failed, US objectives remain unchanged. They still want access to the Indian market, still want India in the Western or at least anti-China camp and still want to pry Russia out of Chinese influence.

Trump and his advisors' posts clearly show they want to close the deal with India quickly, so that they can move on to Russia and China and their domestic priorities , but now they will be forced to concede more than they were initially willing to in order to close the deal. India has already eaten the tariffs and taken the hit, so it doesn't mind drawing out the negotiations in order to get better terms , but ultimately it is in both parties' interest to get a deal done. Trump has already laid the groundwork by laying out how India had been taking advantage of the US for decades and how he is brilliant enough to now force India to lower the tariff rate to "nothing". Maybe it won't be as big a win as it might have been if India had folded like Pakistan and most countries did , but it would still be a big win he can sell to his constituency. India is the most populous and fastest growing major economy in the world and India has offered fairly substantially concessions that don't compromise its red lines.

I understand that for a government that is dependent for its survival on US forbearance on Pakistan Democracy Act sanctions, the concept of facing up to and challenging American demands would be an alien concept, but India has stronger cards than Pakistan and will use them to advance the interests of the nation rather than some generals and usurpers who want to save their seats.

Trump is a dealmaker. I doubt he cares about hard principles, especially standing up for democracy . He wants Russia closer to the West than to China and doesn't really want to commit US soldiers outside the US.

In any case, none of what you listed above is both an absolute red line for India and a fundamental interst for America. Some may require the US to offer sufficient incentives and accommodations. India has already stopped buying Iranian oil, buys US weapons and doesnt really care to replace the dollar with the yuan. So, an agreement is likely if both sides are willing to give the other side some wins.
