Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma today (22 September) told BNP leaders that his country wants to further strengthen its relations with Bangladesh.

During a meeting with top BNP leaders, the Indian envoy also said his country is also working to strengthen the relations of Indian political parties with BNP, reports UNB.

Following the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul told reporters that they discussed ways to deepen the bilateral relationship between the two neighbouring countries.

The BNP leader said they also raised concerns about ongoing border tensions, water disputes, and security threats and emphasised the urgent need for solutions to these problems.

He said the Indian high commissioner acknowledged these concerns and assured BNP that they are committed to resolving the issues promptly.

Both sides expressed a desire to strengthen their bilateral ties, particularly in light of the recent political changes in Bangladesh.

The Indian envoy expressed interest in fostering closer relationships with Bangladesh's political parties and working towards a more positive and productive partnership between the two nations, Fakhrul added.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, Vice Chairman Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, and international affairs committee member Shama Obaid were present at the meeting.

Indian PDFers and certain Indian politicians on the other hand were insinuating that BNP coming to power means Bangladesh turning into Talibani Afghanistan and a complete relationship breakdown with India. Clearly Indian ambassador and by extension the Indian govt. doesn't share the same sentiment.

It could be that even India now realizes BAL is not going to make a comeback in the next decade at least, so they are making a transition to cozy up to BNP.

On a side note - the Chinese ambassador on the other hand chose to meet with Jamaat e Islami amir earlier this month. It will be interesting to see if Indian ambassador also meets up with Jamaat amir.

Unless Indian ambassador meets with Jamaat and promise to work together if Jamaat comes to power - their statement about "a desire to strengthen their bilateral ties, particularly in light of the recent political changes in Bangladesh", cannot be taken seriously.

Jamaat has been growing in popularity and its party members were at the forefront of the revolution. Even if they don't come to power, they are likely to become the primary opposition. Clearly indicating that Jamaat is now a major player in the political landscape of the new Bangladesh.

Hindustan is a cancer that must be isolated. It’s Bangladesh’s best interest to not have any relationship with them. They are the enemy of all Muslims
