The AW 119 helicopter being carried belonged to a private charter company

IAF was just trying to help it because it was stranded in a remote area without any possibility of being repaired

But The pilots soon realised that it was not worth the Risk

So they jettisoned the load and saved themselves from a bigger accident

They did the right thing

That's all very well but it was just hooked up like a sand bag rather than being secured keeping in mind the body mass.
Happens all the time, here Pak army Mi-17 is ferrying a Cobra Gunship in similar method.

The air lifted helicopter was intentionally let go as MI 17 pilot was loosing stability due to excessive weight and high winds.

why there wasn't a drag chute attached to the defective helicopter as it could have stabilized it during the airlift?
