Honestly, it seems like state of IAF is bordering on criminal neglect. I cannot think of any modern air force that has let its core strength depelete and age so much, only examples I can think of is Argentina, Jordan and South Africa.

IAF through a combination of red tape, arrogance, poor leadership, Tejas failure and global geopolitics has basically found itself in a similar situation that PAF was in the 90s. The 90s were the "lost decade" for PAF, I think 2020-2030 will be same for IAF.

600 fighter jet air force and not a single new fighter delivered in 4 years!?

Focus was so much on MRCA tamasha for 20 years as MIG-21 replacement that the idiots did not realise everything else was aging too.

You take out the 30 odd Rafales they have and the IAF looks like a very old air force.

To make matters worse is the lack of investment in support aircraft. only 5 AEW (3 of them ancient Phalcons) and 6 refuellers.

The defence ministry is expected to issue the Request For Proposal (RFP) to French jet maker Dassault in May, and contract negotiations will begin thereafter.| India News

A major Indian media outlet just reported that the Indian Air Force has purchased 114 Rafale fighter jets, but will only receive 25% of them domestically.And they can only get some interfaces to integrate some of their own weapons.France will not provide source code.
It's hard to imagine that India spent $39 billion for so little.Indians will spend all their air force equipment procurement budget for the next 5 to 10 years.
In my opinion, the main problem with the Indian Air Force is that it does not have a clear understanding of itself.

No purchase has been made and it is now looking more and more unlikely that India will get the Rafale. They will be left with just 28-30 units. It is an insane state of affairs, as mentioned earlier, the neglect is bordering on the criminal here....

No, In my opinion, the biggest problem with the IAF is that there is no overall plan, like a street vendor who buys whatever looks advanced.. India's core 270 Su-30MKIs are still in their prime.However, the technology level of these aircraft remains similar to that of the F-15E and F-15C of the 1990s.India has ignored upgrades to these aircraft
The main goals of the Indians are the introduction of the Rafale fighter jet and the construction of the Tejas fighter jet.
The Rafale is a favorite of the military, but these aircraft are too expensive and their performance is not as good as other 4.5 generation aircraft such as the J10C and J16.
Tejas is a fighter jet favored by the government, but its performance is relatively outdated, and its production speed is limited by foreign components such as engines and radar.

Now these people are complaining about wanting to upgrade the Su-30MKI, but they forget that the upgrade plan for the Su-30 is clearly of very low priority in the IAF's planning. To this day, not a single Su-30 has been modified, and the GaN radar that India desires hasn't even produced a single prototype.

I would argue in an AESA world, the SU-30MKI's Bars radar is simply not fit for purpose and easily jammable

The N011M radar was not considered advanced even in the 1990s, and these Soviet PESA radarsCompared to PD radars in other countries, it wastes a lot of power and is too heavy.
For example, the N011M radar has a detection range of 120 km for a target with an RCS of 3 m2, while the APG70 And 1493radar of the same period can achieved 200KM

Frankly speaking, the IAF is just a bunch of idiots. They could have spent $5 billion to invite BAE, Raytheon, Grumman, and Thales to design an AESA radar suitable for the SU30, along with an advanced ECM pod.$5 billion is more than enough.
But these idiots spent all their money onThe Rafale fighter jet, which costs twice as much as the F-35

Are you saying - india doesnt have ,money to buy the jet or that france will not sell the jets to infia?
