Indian Air Force News and Discussions ll

If this report is accurate this would be really bad for the IAF and spread what few assets they have all over the plaxe.

"Its concerns are further compounded by its severely depreciated fighter strength, down to 28-29 squadrons against an authorised 42.5, and one that is imminently expected to shrink further with legacy platforms like Anglo-French SEPECAT Jaguars retiring. Hypothetically, if both the Northern Theatre Commander facing China and a Western Theatre Commander confronting Pakistan concurrently demand fighters, surveillance aircraft, tankers and other support assets, who determines which ITC gets priority?

“The IAF genuinely fears that resource fragmentation could undermine its ability to concentrate air power where it is most needed,” said a retired one-star fighter pilot. “Aircraft cannot be divided into neat little packets and permanently assigned to individual theatres”, he added, requesting anonymity, “ and this is one fundamental dilemma that the entire ITC structure has yet to convincingly resolve”.

Yes, maybe celebrate the Kaveri when it is finally in a plane? Core Kaveri ran in 1995. 32 years ago.

Still not installed in a jet fighter. This project is actually taking much much longer then Tejas. If that is what you are pinning your hopes on well....
Kaveri engine is doing what it was originally designed to do: producing a stable 73 kN of thrust. However, the thrust requirement for Tejas has increased to around 90 kN.

Remember, the Kaveri engine was designed in the 1980s. The third generation single crystal turbine blades developed by DRDO in 2003 for the hot section of the engine were subsequently used in the Kaveri programme.

DRDO has since developed even more advanced fourth-generation single-crystal blades for the engine's hot section. However, you cannot simply swap the older blades with the newer ones. When the mechanical and thermal properties of critical engine components change, the entire engine design must be reassessed and modified to accommodate those changes.

That is precisely the kind of redesign and development work DRDO and GTRE are currently undertaking.

HAL has developed a new engine for replacing the old Adour engines in jaguar its called HTFE-25/40, produces 25kn dry thrust and 40kn wet thrust or afterburner thrust

183 Tejas Mk1As, an additional 114 Rafales for the Air Force, 26 Rafales for the Navy, 120 Tejas Mk2s, and even the AMCA are not what really interests me. The real game-changer is the Kaveri engine and the upcoming Indo-French 120 kN engine, which is expected to power the Tejas Mk2 and AMCA.

This may not be getting much media attention, but it is more important than all the aircraft procurement deals combined.

the deal for 176 Rafales is also intended to sweeten the larger engine partnership. Otherwise, given India's ongoing indigenous fighter programmes, there is no strategic justification for importing Rafales in such large numbers.
Joining yesterday and banging on about the kaveri...seems like another multi ID rat @Musings
