Probably the most confusing and inefficient part of the Indian armed forces. The IAF has a large number of helicopters to support IA movements AND then again the IA buys its own to support the troops. All because of an archaic power move by the IAF.Have to admit this is the most bizarre procurement of India in many years and sums up Indian procurement.
1) IAF has the exact same chopper based at different base
2) What different roles and objectives would IAF v IA Apaches have?
3) 6 machines is a tiny number, if you include training and maintence how many would be available for ops? 3? 2?
I think this purchase was more a result of inter-service rivalry (in terms of which branch keeps the attack chopper role) then any serious strategy
