The most effective response india can pursue after the attack is not a reactive military strike, but a calculated increase in activity along the border. This would force pakistan into mirroring troop deployments, something india can afford. Pakistan, by contrast, is facing a severe economic crisis, with low foreign reserves, high inflation, and ongoing IMF conditionalities.
In addition, pakistan is already stretched thin along its western border, facing persistent instability and a less than cooperative taliban in afghanistan. Diverting resources to match india militarily on the eastern front would only deepen its internal vulnerabilities.
India’s leadership should by now understand that military retaliation rarely produces long term strategic results. What does work is sustained pressure, especially economic and diplomatic. With indias growing global influence, it is in a position to isolate pakistan further through global institutions like FATF, the UN, and multilateral banks.
In todays geopolitical climate, airstrikes may satisfy public anger momentarily, but diplomatic and economic isolation hurts deeper and longer. A smart state doesn’t act loudly; it acts effectively.
And with national elections still some time away, perhaps the usual BJP style theatrics can be avoided, and for once, strategy might just win over spectacle. Thank God its not an election year!
