India turned a tragic incident into a crisis for the region and is trying to turn it into a crisis for the world.
If this was carried out by Kashmiris, for the stated reasons give by the alleged perpetrators as stated in the Indian media, considering how Kashmir has been placed in more than a year and a half of lockdown after the abrogation of Article 370, it’s possible there were enough people that could be motivated to do this.
Then, possibly with entrapment (and Indian cutout organization feeding individuals with arms and directing them against tourists, which is known will cause the maximum outrage), someone could have provided the arms and given these radicalized individuals the means to carry out the killings. It’s also possible these are Radicalized individuals, even more so by the past few years of extra Indian repression, carrying these actions out of their own volition, because it seems mad anyone would direct an attack on tourists.
The Indians, with the massive manhunt underway, haven’t even captured the alleged gunmen in this incident. In due time, they will probably have to find some patsies to stick the blame upon.
Isn’t there an Indian military post a few kilometers away from where this incident happened? It’s been more than a week.
The Kashmiris just want to live normal lives, and so this attack on tourists hurts them a lot. The actions of a few murderers does not reflect on the methods most Kashmiris choose to seek their independence. Working through the Indian political process as the only peace means at their disposal, currently.
But we have to remember that Kashmiri people were discontent with the status quo and showed it in the recent elections. Kashmiris, being stuck in the Indian crosshairs, are saying what they are saying, but you can see what they could say openly, when the elections were held, and expressing their desire for autonomy at the moment and a return to some kind of normal life.
