Let me tell you a real situation.

During the Russian-Ukrainian war, some Chinese citizens joined the mercenaries as private individuals. Some of them helped Russia, and some helped Ukraine.
The Chinese government strictly prohibits such behavior. If these people return to China after the war, they will be punished according to Chinese law for war crimes.
On Chinese social media, these mercenaries are criticized by most Chinese people.

Quad is dead, Australia chose a PM who came on promises of breaking ties with Trump's America and Japan has started saying it wants good relations with China. Trump is closing down all treaties and everyone's suspecting he will not renew Quad either.
