The renowned Russian military blogger "Rybar" posted on his Chinese social media account, stating that Russia might lease the K-391 "Bratsk" (Type 971 Akula-class submarine) nuclear attack submarine to India.

India Tests K-4 Missile, With 3,500-km Range, From Nuclear-Powered Submarine

Designed to hit targets 3,500 km away, the K-4 missile provides a massive boost to the sea-based nuclear attack capability of the forces

In a big flex of its nuclear capabilities, India has tested an intermediate-range ballistic missile launched from a nuclear-capable submarine. The K-4 missile was test-fired from the nuclear-powered submarine INS Arighaat in the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday. The test was conducted off the coast of Vishakhapatnam.

Designed to hit targets 3,500 km away, the missile provides a massive boost to the sea-based nuclear attack capability of the forces.

The K-4 submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) was commissioned into the Indian Navy on August 29, 2024, making India part of a small group of nations capable of firing a nuclear missile from land, air, and undersea.

Derived from the Agni-III land-launched missile, it is the country's longest-range sea-launched strategic weapon. The land version of the missile has been modified for sea launch, including the ability to pop out of a submarine launch silo, bubble up to the ocean surface, and then activate its rocket motor to blast into the air.

The missile has been built to deliver a 2.5-ton nuclear warhead and can be launched from India's Arihant-class submarines.

K-4 is the stealthiest leg of India's nuclear triad, since ballistic missile submarines like the Arihant-class are built to lurk around in complete silence in unknown stretches of ocean for extended periods on "deterrence patrols."

The 'K' in the K-series of missiles is a tribute to APJ Abdul Kalam, who played a key role in India's Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP).

Can anyone tell me, please, if the load will reduce to only 500 kg instead of 2.5 tons, will the range increase?

Obviously… main energy solid booster takes specially the first stage is to take payload to space ~600 km for full range…

If payload is reduced to 500 kg from 3 ton range will increase to ICBM aka more than 5500 kms easily

This is absolutely massive the second nuclear powered submarine Arighat is in service and with K4 ballistic missile tested the full Nuclear Triad in intact and ready to respond in crisis situations

4 more even larger submarines are arriving next few years to give i dia formidable submarine launched nuclear missile strike capability to match all bar the big three

So 2 of the 3 units of S-5 class 13,000-14,000 tonne SSBNs are now under construction along with 2 SSNs (nuclear attack submarines) 😋

a decade back when I was stating facts peoples use to ask proof & fun of the post but now many getting reality checks.

SSN & SSBNs are produced in tandemly, works on indigenous SSK are in final stages, it might feel slow now, but by 2030, IN will be commissioning atleast one sub in a year. It will be over the import/ToT subs built in India.
