Globalnetwork.id, JAKARTA – Indonesian Aerospace (IAe) is turning Kertajati Airport in Majalengka into a site for ramping up production of 80 CN235 aircraft and 30 N219 aircraft.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by IAe President Director Gita Amperiawan and BIJB (Perseroda) Acting Director Ronald H. Sinaga at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 16, 2026.

Also present as witnesses were Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana, and Majalengka Regent Eman Suherman.

AHY said the cooperation is part of the government's commitment to making Kertajati one of the national aerospace industry centers.

"The government is also encouraging the emergence of an integrated aerospace industry ecosystem. It's now a matter of how we create the market," AHY said.

In the initial phase, IAe and BIJB will optimize existing facilities to support flight testing of various IAe products.

These products include fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters (rotary wing), and unmanned aircraft (UAS).

The development of this industrial zone is also part of IAe's strategy to strengthen its aerospace services comprehensively.

This includes testing, certification, maintenance, after-sales support, and services throughout the aircraft's operational life cycle.

IAe President Director Gita Amperiawan, while reading remarks from the Head of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara), expressed optimism that Kertajati will grow into a national aerospace industry center.

"We are very confident that a robust national aerospace industry can be built here in Kertajati," he said.

There will be manufacturing, MRO, and aerostructures, and of course this will become a collaboration between industry, government, and global partners.

The development of the industrial zone at Kertajati Airport is also a strategic step by IAe to boost the company's production capacity.

This aligns with orders for the procurement of 80 CN235 aircraft and 30 N219 aircraft.

In addition to supporting increased production capacity, the industrial zone can accelerate commercialization.

It will also strengthen the readiness of IAe's production facilities and infrastructure to meet the needs of the national aerospace industry.

Kertajati will not only serve as an air transportation gateway, but will also grow into a manufacturing and service hub for the aerospace industry.

PTDI Plans to Relocate Aircraft Manufacturing Operations to Kertajati​

JAKARTA – The Indonesian government has begun preparations to develop Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka, West Java, into the country's national aerospace industrial hub. As part of the initiative, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) and PT Bandar Udara Internasional Jawa Barat (BIJB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the development.

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said the partnership forms part of the government's strategy to transform Kertajati into both an international airport and an Aerospace Industrial Zone.

"Today we witnessed the signing of an MoU between PTDI and BIJB as part of our shared commitment to develop the Kertajati area into one of Indonesia's aerospace industry hubs," AHY said during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday (July 15, 2026).

According to AHY, Kertajati offers an ideal location for PTDI's future expansion. Compared with Bandung, where urban development has become increasingly dense, Kertajati provides significantly larger land availability while offering strategic connectivity to industrial centers in Bekasi, Karawang, Purwakarta, Patimban Port, Cirebon, and Central Java.

Under the plan, PTDI's existing facilities in Bandung will gradually be transformed into the company's research and innovation center, while manufacturing and operational activities will eventually be relocated to Kertajati.

PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan explained that the company has already been utilizing Kertajati Airport for flight testing of its Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and the N219 aircraft. He noted that Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung is no longer suitable for the company's long-term manufacturing requirements.

Besides being surrounded by increasingly dense urban development, Husein Sastranegara's 2,400-meter runway is considered insufficient for the maiden flights of newly developed aircraft, which typically require a runway of approximately 3 kilometers to meet safety standards.

"When an aircraft flies for the first time, a runway of around three kilometers is recommended for safety during takeoff. Bandung's runway, at approximately 2,400 meters, is no longer suitable for aircraft manufacturing activities," Gita said.

He also noted that PTDI supplies aircraft components to global aerospace manufacturers including Airbus and Boeing. Currently, those components must first be transported by land to Jakarta before being exported overseas. With operations at Kertajati, shipments will be able to depart directly from the airport.

"After production, we currently have to transport our components to Jakarta before they can be flown to Airbus and Boeing. These are large containers. Once we operate from Kertajati, we will be able to ship them directly to our international customers," Gita explained.

PTDI plans to begin utilizing Kertajati in August 2026. The immediate priority will be accelerating aircraft flight testing to ensure the company achieves its October 2026 fleet readiness target for aircraft deliveries to the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI).



Initially, PTDI will relocate flight testing activities for aircraft undergoing fleet readiness programs, followed by testing of the MALE UAV and the N219, including aircraft scheduled for delivery to the Indonesian Army later this year.

The next phase of development will include the construction of a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kertajati. PTDI has allocated approximately 150–200 hectares for future expansion covering four business portfolios: aircraft manufacturing, MRO services, aerostructure production, and engineering services, including drone development.

In the longer term, PTDI plans to relocate its aircraft production lines to Kertajati. The N219 is expected to become the first aircraft manufactured at the new site to meet growing demand from both the Indonesian Armed Forces and the commercial aviation sector.

"The third phase will be relocating production to Kertajati. The first production line to move will most likely be the N219. Its production equipment is relatively new, and with support from the government, we expect demand to increase significantly, both from the military and commercial aviation," Gita said.

PT BIBU Signs Contract to Purchase Three N219 Amphibious Aircraft from PTDI​

DENPASAR (ANTARA) – PT BIBU Panji Sakti signed a contract to purchase three N219 Amphibious aircraft from PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) at PTDI’s office in Bandung on Wednesday.

PT BIBU Panji Sakti President Director Erwanto Sad Adiatmoko Hariwibowo said in a statement in Denpasar on Wednesday that the signing of the contract demonstrated the company’s commitment to building a logistics system connecting fisheries production centers with markets.

“With the signing of the purchase contract, we are entering the implementation stage. We want to build a logistics system that connects sea and air so that fishery products from the archipelago can reach markets more quickly,” Erwanto said.

According to him, Indonesia’s geographical characteristics as an archipelagic country require a transportation system that does not depend entirely on land infrastructure.

The N219 Amphibious is considered one potential solution because the aircraft is designed to operate from both land-based runways and water surfaces.

Erwanto said distribution speed is an important factor, particularly for high-value fishery commodities such as fresh fish, export-quality tuna, and live seafood.

“Speed is an important part of the economic value of marine commodities. Products such as fresh fish and export-quality tuna cannot wait too long. Therefore, we need a mode of transportation that can bring production centers closer to markets,” he said.

The three aircraft will eventually be operated by PT BIBU Agro Maritim, a subsidiary of PT BIBU Panji Sakti engaged in the development and management of maritime commodity supply chains.

Meanwhile, PT BIBU Agro Maritim President Director Anak Agung Ngurah Alit Kakarsana said the characteristics of high-value fishery commodities require a fast and efficient distribution system.

According to Kakarsana, the N219 is expected to serve as a link between fisheries production areas in eastern Indonesia and trading centers as well as export markets.

“Products such as live seafood and sashimi-grade tuna require a fast distribution system to obtain the best value in the market,” he said.

Cooperation between PT BIBU Panji Sakti and PTDI began in December 2025.

At that time, the two companies signed an MoU for the procurement of three N219 aircraft in cargo configuration at PTDI’s Aircraft Services Hangar in Bandung.

Under the initial agreement, the N219 was designed to serve as a feeder aircraft, transporting marine commodities from several locations before they are transferred to larger-capacity aircraft for onward transportation to export markets.

PTDI President Director Air Vice Marshal (Ret.) Gita Amperiawan said strengthening the market for the N219 is an important part of building the sustainability of Indonesia’s domestic aircraft industry.

“This contract demonstrates that the N219 is not merely a technological product, but is beginning to become a real solution to Indonesia’s connectivity needs,” Gita said.

He said there remains considerable demand for aircraft capable of operating in archipelagic regions, remote areas, and locations with limited infrastructure.

Gita also said the development of Indonesia’s national aerospace industry requires the involvement of various stakeholders, ranging from aircraft manufacturers and operators to service users, the government, and the private sector.

The N219 Amphibious has a capacity of up to 19 passengers and can be configured for various missions, including cargo transportation, medical evacuation, maritime patrol, and search and rescue (SAR).
