It's not like this at all.........You are thinking civil air, fighters don't generally turn on their transponder when they are in a combat mission.

I can't tell you how this works, but I will say this: it depends on what the radar operator saw, how he interpreted it, and what the order is. It is a lot more primal than what you saw on TV......And I probably said more than I should here.....

I can just say "To see it on a screen and instantly identify them as F-15" is only seen on TV

My final opinion too. Shot down by friendly fire, really?? These aircrafts have the Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), okay Kuwait that shot down the planes, but if true, then there are serious operational problems with the systems and those manning the systems.

Again. IFF mod 5 It is the standard in NATO and has been specifically designed to avoid friendly fire. It cannot be true.
