Ok heres my take.
kharg island invasion doesn't make sense unless it is for P.R.
If they want to cripple irans oil income, they can simply interdict iranian tankers on route to china.
So why haven't they done so already? Iran probably threatened to hit desalination plants, close strait in red sea and potentially limited raid like attacks in kuwait.
So why U.S sending troops, maybe to help protect against these raids or to gain experience on how to deal with drones from battlefield and Ukraine.
So this could mean that once assets are in place and U.S feels confident they would then block irans tankers.
Of course if there is an invasion, like i mentioned it would be for P.R and probably eventually used for negotating to publically tell the world we won. If its at Kharg would come from kuwait, or otherwise attack would be makran coast. Strategically netiher makes sense though.
