The only issue I have is a lot of the older C-130s are undergoing prop upgrades as well for both performance and fuel economy.

There were plans to upgrade further to a 8-bladed prop. Those have been shelved.

However, this video is definitely worth watching and sharing. It thoroughly shows the two stages of the rescue with the help of maps and pictures. They claim that 74 aircraft participated in the rescue. A total of 8 aircraft were lost, 1 f15, 2 c130, 2 larger helicopters, 2 smaller ones, 2 A10s. The 2c130s blew themselves up.Given the above, it's no wonder the Iranian forces didn't even get close to them. How nice it would have been to have 20x110 assault rifles.

Maybe what happened is they were in planning stage then the lost fighter pilot happened and their cover was blown and they ended up doing a rescue mission than completing the original mission.
