US has violated ceasefire, Iran says

BBC
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has released a statement, saying the US has violated the ceasefire.

In a social media post, the IRGC says the US army acted against an Iranian oil tanker near the port of Jask.

Iran's navy responded with "intense explosive warheads" and "intelligence surveillance indicates significant damage to the American enemy, and three enemy invading ships quickly fled the Strait of Hormuz area", it posted on X.

We've just received a statement from US Central Command (Centcom).

Here's what it says in full:

"U.S. forces intercepted unprovoked Iranian attacks and responded with self-defense strikes as U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers transited the Strait of Hormuz to the Gulf of Oman, May 7.

"Iranian forces launched multiple missiles, drones and small boats as USS Truxtun (DDG 103), USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), and USS Mason (DDG 87) transited the international sea passage. No U.S. assets were struck.

"U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) eliminated inbound threats and targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for attacking U.S. forces including missile and drone launch sites; command and control locations; and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance nodes.

"CENTCOM does not seek escalation but remains positioned and ready to protect American forces."

Not looking good for Iran for maintaining deterrence and leverage

Explosions in Strait of Hormuz, says Iran's state

Ione Wells
BBC Foreign correspondent

Iran’s state broadcaster has reported explosions in the Strait of Hormuz which it has described as an “exchange of fire” between Iranian armed forces and the “enemy”.

An Israeli source has told the BBC there was “no Israeli involvement” in reported attacks on Thursday evening in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s state broadcaster, citing an unnamed military official, said it followed an attack by the US military on an Iranian tanker, saying that “enemy units” in the strait came under Iranian missile fire.

The US has so far not commented on the reports.

On Tuesday, the US paused an operation to guide stranded vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, citing “great progress” that Donald Trump said had been made toward a deal with Iran.

On Wednesday, Trump said that the US military operation towards Iran dubbed “Operation Epic Fury” would end if Iran “agrees to give what has been agreed to”, without giving more detail. Iran’s foreign ministry said the latest US proposal was being considered.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, addressing his security cabinet on Wednesday evening, said that there was “full coordination” between the US and Israel; there are no surprises”.

a combined attack of missile 358/359 (to disrupt aerial interception operations) + torpedos + UUVs + ASBMs is needed to hit a US ship when it passes the Strait of Hormoz

Houthis managed pretty large saturation attacks, without major success but they came close a few times, at a much further distance from their coastline as well

Like it or not you are in a ceasefire. There is 0% chance Iran tries to sink a U.S. warship during a ceasefire. Not going to happen. U.S. also knows this that’s why ships are much closer than during the war.

Are you a 100% sure none hit the destroyers. They were anchored. How could they have missed unless they fired 1 or 2 for each destroyer just to scare them

For nearly six decades the U.S. has voluntarily remained in the dark on Israel's nuclear capabilities.

The ambiguity ends now.

There is too much at stake to accept ignorance. We are at war alongside Israel against Iran without knowing what their red lines are for using a nuclear weapon.

I led a group of 30 lawmakers to demand an end to the ambiguity.

You have got to hand it to the americans. If infact the iranians were genuinely trying to hit and sink them and the US managed to fight it off. Respect where its due man. That is impressive

Especially if they were anchored and could not manuever around

I dont understand UAE. Why ask Egypt. What do they mean "they dont want to look isolated". Who are they trying to show that to. What can Egypt planes do that uae planes cant do better.

Same goes for saudi. They have better and more planes than us yet they asked us to deploy jets. What do they think? If us uses their airspace iran wont hit them because paf is based there?? The arab mindset is really hard to understand at times. I think they themselves are confused and dont have a clue what to do and are hoping for other countries to help them figure out their own next move. LOL
They are acting exactly like what they are - spoiled kids living on dads money. They can’t function on their own and need outside help for everything. What have they ever produced on their own? They think money can buy them everything. The arrogance they have is beyond anything we will ever understand.

I don't mean this as a dis but it seems like the US isn't taking Iran serious. It feels like the US is just disciplining Iran like a child or a dog when they are naughty by slapping them on the hand or snout and telling them you're a bad boy. You'd think Iran launching missiles and drones would provoke another nation to strike back hard but instead it feels like US rolls its eyes and chastises Iran.

It gave me this kind of feeling when US officials dismissed the incident and said the war isn't back on. It's funny seeing X accounts get excited thinking the war is back on only to see US have a meh attitude.

US and its gCC allies also made claims of 100% interception during 40 days clash only to be badly ridiculed by their wsj, cnn and cbs about the severe damages their 18 bases took, they are almost inoperable with close to 250 structures completely gone including radars, sams etc... Sat images provided the proofs, sadly in naval clashes we wont have sat images and believing Centcom statements alone is a joke...
