Pakistan, which has played a mediation role in US-Iran talks, has endorsed the newly signed memorandum, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted to X.

“Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step, Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade,” Sharif said, reiterating some of the points of the text of the agreement.
The Pakistani prime minister said his country, along with co-mediator Qatar, will host the official ceremony set for Friday in Switzerland “to commemorate this landmark event and commence with the technical level talks.”

“The signing of this agreement at the highest level of the respective governments demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict,” Sharif said.

Here's the latest

• Agreement signed: President Donald Trump signed a copy of the US-Iran agreement tonight at the Palace of Versailles in France. “It’s signed,” Trump told reporters after a dinner hosted by President Emmanuel Macron. The US then sent a photograph of the signed agreement to the Iranians, a US official told CNN. Read the full document, annotated.

• What comes next: The agreement says the US will issue waivers so Iran will be able to export oil and spells out provisions for reopening the critical Strait of Hormuz. It also states Tehran will “not procure or develop nuclear weapons” and commits the US and regional partners to developing a $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran that will be implemented in the next phase of negotiations.

In Lebanon: The text of the agreement ends the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon, where Israel has continued to carry out strikes.

Donald Trump waves to reporters as he leaves Versailles, with Brigitte Macron behind him

After Donald Trump's long day at the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France - attending a morning plenary session, meeting with President Abdel El-Sisi of Egypt and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and giving a news conference on the US's agreement with Iran - the US president took a short flight to Paris.

Then, it was time for dinner at the historic Versailles Palace with French President Emannuel Macron and French first lady Brigitte Macron - which didn’t start until 10 o’clock hour, in true European fashion.

Trump just needs to convert to Islam and he’ll be a pukka Mongol.
He’s seriously fukked up bro.

Iran was ‘subdued’ and not doing much of anything, but he listened to that shyster shetanyahu and tried to fuckk around.

Now shit has assploded no?

For no good reason.

Exposed everyone’s weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

Very stupid move by trump sahb.

Summary

  • Donald Trump says he has signed the US agreement with Iran, while the White House tells the BBC the deal is in effect
  • US officials reveal details of the deal: the 14-paragraph agreement says Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, and also commits to a $300bn fund for the "reconstruction" of the country - but the US is not required to contribute
  • The agreement declares the "immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon"
  • And it says the US and Iran "commit to negotiating and achieving the final deal in maximum 60 days, extendable with mutual consent". Read the key points of the deal here
  • Donald Trump earlier warned the deal is "not final"
  • He said the US could resume attacks if the agreement doesn't work out - "If they don't behave, we'll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head, OK?"

Sometimes threat of war/violence is worse than the event itself - as Israel just found out. Had they not bothered attacking, Iran would have remained under severe sanctions, status quo would have continued, just like the last 50 odd years. But now that Iran has faced the worse and has come out of it....the country is only heading in one direction: up!

I am honoured to announce that the historic ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ has been electronically signed today between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Memorandum has been signed by honourable Presidents of both the countries and also endorsed by me as the mediator. The signing of this agreement at the highest level of the respective governments demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict. Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step, Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade.

I offer my heartfelt congratulations and sincere appreciation to the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump whose steadfast commitment to diplomacy and preference for peaceful resolution have once again helped end a conflict that could have led to devastating consequences for the region and beyond. I also commend the dedication and tireless efforts of the United States negotiating team, including J.D. Vance, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, for their invaluable contributions to this achievement.

I express my profound respect and appreciation to His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Islamic Republic of Iran and President Masoud Pezeshkian for their wisdom, foresight and statesmanship in embracing the cause of peace. I also wish to recognize the efforts of the Iranian negotiating team, including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi and Eskandar Momeni, whose patience, perseverance and commitment to constructive engagement were instrumental in bringing this agreement to fruition.

I would especially like to acknowledge the sincere efforts and constructive engagement of the leadership of the State of Qatar in helping reach this point. I also highly commend the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Türkiye and the Arab Republic of Egypt for their indispensable role and invaluable contributions in this regard.

I would also like to make special mention of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, whose tireless efforts, selfless dedication and instrumental role were critical in facilitating this breakthrough and advancing the cause of peace and regional stability.

May this Memorandum of Understanding serve as an enduring foundation for greater understanding, mutual respect and shared prosperity for the complete region.

Pezeshkian looks pissed for an odd reason

People keep dismissing him but I have come to respect him. He was a doctor with no prior experience in politics and statecraft yet he maintained his composure, never sold out and survived TWO wars.

not even one high ranking (or low ranking) leader from Iran defected during the war

Isn't it crazy that keeping the peace with US, Israel and the GCC countries was actually a bad strategy for irans management of relations with those countries?

Put another way - war served Iran pretty well, much better than being peaceful and pacifist.

The "might is right" era we are in. Ow means that threatening to or using violence on stubborn adversaries leads to positive or favorable outcomes.

This all confirms that humanity is in a VERY bad space today.
