Remains to be seen but what seems to be the US+Israeli(basically Zio+Neocon) plan here is the complete decapitation of IRI "the system". This will be confirmed if they start targeting pro western leftist reformists as well who atleast twice eyed a power sharing structure with IRGC in post Khamenei IRI. Could very well succeed but not if even they are targeted.

System is being prepared for return of Pahlavi so civil war erupts inside Iran like post Saddam Iraq. Israel (and its controlled US) will not tolerate a socio-economically independent + powerful Islamic country. They can tolerate massively debted or piss poor countries which they can control easily from outside.

Iran is heavily infiltrated and most likely at the top level. The manner in which Israel has been eliminating generals and leaders one after another should tell us everything.

This is an intelligence failure. There are many many lessons to be learnt here.

Or it could be a faction within the Iranian political establishment who has worked very hard to get rid off anyone who was opposed to their plan. This looks like an internal coup, supported by the US and Israel from outside.

This attack was basically similar to the one took out Hassan Nasrallah and other Hezbollah leaders.
