Sistani belongs to the majority Quietist school of thought, meaning the clergy stay away from politics and current affairs, unless there is the gravest emergency or a matter of immense importance. Sistani has only twice waded into politics, once before the vote on the new Iraqi constitution and then again when the ISIS monster was menacing the land.
