Ya I think you are right, that Island is a distraction, they will need to hold the area on the mainland to open up the strait, but I think that could also be dangerous for them. Iran has plenty of SRBM and drones that can hit those occupying troops from a far, so it will definitely cause casualties regardless, even if the IRGC/army itself can't approach and engage US soldiers directly..
