Saddam Hussein decided to accept Euro for Iraqi oil sales that were administered through the UN in the 1990s. They invaded Iraq in 2003.

Russia and EU signed an agreement to settle Russian gas sales on the Euro. The next we know is a colored revolution in Ukraine, the conflict in the Russian-speaking Eastern and Southern Ukraine, the current war between the West thru Ukraine and Russia, and the destruction of the Nord Stream gas pipelines in September 2022.

Well, in this current conflict, Iran should've built the bomb if they want to embark on this decision that demand any oil sales be carried out on the Chinese currency
contingent upon the tankers getting a pass. But perhaps they see no other option since they are already attacked. Nevertheless, for America's deep state to accept oil and gas purchases being settled on any currency other than the US Dollar, they view it as an economic suicide. This is most likely the reason why the US govt is contemplating on launching ground war against Iran.
