This strategy of killing "famous" people is known as an "alarmist attack" and consists of creating media events to have "victory narratives", This works in the minds of ignorant people lacking geopolitical or military knowledge, but in practice..., it means nothing and can even worsen things for those who do it. Larijani (if he died) was a pro-Western figure, pragmatic and peaceful; his daughter lives in the USA! He was banned from public life in Iran for being too pro-Western.
