If it were Iran, Russia's influence would be greater than China's. Even India has strong influence over Iran.

But China may be the only major power that hopes for the unity of the Islamic world in the Middle East, and Russia also hopes for the continued division of the Islamic world. Its position is similar to that of the United States.

China doesn't have any historical grudges against the Islamic world....we are natural allies.

It’s possible they just throw these soldiers in the meat grinder rather than try to build up a massive force that can be targeted by Iranian missiles.

but how does that stop Iranian MRBM launches? those are not launched from south Iran anyway. they are mostly launched from central and north Iran (and still a little from west Iran).

No, Trump just gave a 48-hour notice of new targeting for air war. That won't happen if ground war is the plan. Unless he intentionally wants to mislead, which is possible.

Speculation on my part but I think it is an electro-optical “shoot and scoot” MRSAM system.

This is perfect to ambush fast and hi-flying jet fighters and “stealth” does not help and so F-35s are just as vulnerable.

The system may already exist, I don't think it is a new system but stepped up manufacturing of an existing platform.
