People who are focusing in on this aspect of what happened are pointing equally towards the number of operatives and materiel that was deployed, coupled with some speculation on where the mission ended up taking place. Whether it's true or not I don't think we'll ever know and it's just guesswork either way, until some massive tranche of declassified yet redacted documents that gets dumped out 50 years from now.

Its like a bully kid going to park with his family gang to pick on other kids in the park. Of course he will be protected. Israelis are mostly using their stand off weapons. Americans got too comfortable and started used JDAMs but their tactics will change after this incident.

Iran is mostly firing missiles with cluster warheads, small munitions spreading out. They're falling and causing little damage here and there but usually not enough to kill anyone or destroy an entire home.
Hezbollah is firing around dozens of rockets a day which some are intercepted some are landing, in some cases caused casualties and damage.
Those two deaths were from yesterday. An Iranian missile hit a building in Haifa and 4 people were under rubble. An Iranian missile also hit yesterday in southern Israel.
But overall it's not enough rockets/missiles to do widespread damage and casualties. But it's causing major stoppage in daily life and occasional extensive damage.

Example of Iranian cluster missile. This was the one most recently fired at Haifa, Israel. Some of these fall in random areas and can flip/destroy some cars or cause small crater in roads or destroy small section of a home.
Iran usually firing rate of 10-15 missiles at Israel per day. Not all of them are cluster warheads. Some are traditional large explosive warheads.
But today so far this morning they fired 12 missiles so far

- Israelis are using F-16i, F-15i ... their F-35 fleet is missing from action for some reason.
- The pilot rescue mission day 2 was a cover up for Isfahan landing (HEU grab op), which failed massively but they may have learnt about Iranian defenses so they may try again. Both sides are learning more and more about each other.
- New 700 Million USD replacement costing E-3G has arrived in Saoodi AB, IRGC might target it.
- Some claims or reports of IRGCASF possessing 500 ICBMs Hwasong-18 equivalent which if true (no evidence) would rather be Ghaem 100 TEL-SLV.
- The aviationist analysts now believe that K-4 and Sejjil-II have ranges of 4000 KM (IISS estimates are ~3500 KM)
- UAE did not report the extent of oil infra damage that is now open on newly released SAT images.
- Reports from inside Iran, IRGC is reading Trumps threat as domestic consumption antics but they are ready for reciprocation if need be.
- Iran: US-ISrael-PGCC alliance aviation losses 47:88
- Oman and IRI are drafting new Hormuz Toll regime together which may come in practice in future.

There is an understanding setting in of inevitability of Iran going nuclear at any cost. The bluster masks panic...
At heart is an equation they had led themselves to believe that they'd be able bend Iran on its knees in short order... the repercussions of this are dire and manifold which open up US for unpredictable outcomes. Something that hasn't fully been appreciated in its scope. Yet.
