I’ve seen vids of the karrar drone launching the strela copy at multiple IDF drones in the 12 day war. They were published by IRIB and Tasnim agencies. So the Qaher turning into an AI intercept drone is highly likely. The Karrar drone was non existent in this war along with its MALE fleet.
Iranian airspace is not conducive for such drones when you have strong EW of the enemy with AWACs and f-22 deploying jamming capabilities. Makes signal strength very weak. Add in the mountainous terrain that blocks ground based communication signals and you almost have to certainly rely on encrypted two way data feeds via military satellite constellation to communicate with the drone. Something Iran doesn’t have and would have to rely on Chinese to hand over access too, which I doubt they would.
Thus this buzzword of ‘AI Unmanned fighter’ jets is not yet a reality for a country of Iran and is likely 10+ years away from being viable alternative to manned jets even for major powers. The F-47 is manned and China’s 6th generations are still manned as well. Which means the two strongest Air Force’s in the world still expect human pilots to be the bulk of the Airforce till at least 2040.
Evidently, anything manned is just on borrowed time.
