While China likes to see SOH remains open, unblocked by US and Iran, China definitely will not pressure Iran to accept US terms in their negotiation as the Yanks wish.

If I were to make a guess, then I'd say when just a few days ago when the Iranian FM Mr. Araghchi went to China, he went there to personally let know to what extent Iran could compromise. Going personally, where a phone call could have done the job for the terms, meant secrecy was very important about the terms.
Plus maybe Araghchi needed to know to what extent China would put its weight behind Iran when President Xi meets Trump.

BTW, years ago I jokingly mentioned the 500 Dollar Hammer to a retired US Air Force officer friend. He got a little irritated and replied 'Yeah, both those are good hammers!'. Hahaha! The horrible international sanctions that the nation of Iran has been suffering for years is due to China not using it's veto power but instead agreeing with West's position to destroy the Iranian economy.

China will not hesitate and sacrifice Iran if the US offers to reduce pressure in the South China Sea.

The South China Sea is not a bargaining chip, just like Taiwan.

Treating China’s sovereignty as a bargaining chip would be seen by China as an insult and an interference in its internal affairs. The Chinese government would immediately walk away from the table rather than negotiate.

To be honest, when it comes to Middle East issues, Saudi Arabia has a greater influence on China than the United States does. The Chinese government doesn’t care about the opinions of the U.S. or Israel, but it certainly cares about Saudi Arabia.

This is also why Iran must reconcile with Saudi Arabia; otherwise, the Chinese government will not intervene in Middle East affairs.

China has also to look after its own interests just as other countries, it's unrealistic to expect China to back up Iran every time no matter what. Russia, Iran's foremost strategic partner also abstained its veto power on few sanctions regarding Iran's nuclear issues as China before. Did you ever wonder there might be problems with Iran's foreign policies, like why it has so few friends in the world esp in its neighborhood that including Pakistan.

As for South China sea, PLAN has dominance over US navy in the region now. China doesn't need favor from US, and its promise can't be trusted anyways.

Iran's Araghchi accuses UAE of ‘direct’ involvement in attacks on Iran​

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United Arab Emirates of direct involvement in military attacks against Iran and said the country should reconsider its “alliance with Israel,” Al Jazeera reports.

He made the comments at the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, according to a post on his official Telegram channel.

“I must say that the UAE was directly involved in the act of aggression against my country…They allowed their territory to be used to fire artillery and equipment against us,” said Araghchi.

He went on to denounce the UAE’s relations with Israel.

“Your alliance with the Israelis did not protect you either, and reconsider your policy towards Iran,” said Araghchi.

Iran allowing transit of Chinese vessels in Strait of Hormuz: Iranian media​

Iran has begun allowing some Chinese vessels to transit through the Strait of Hormuz following an understanding over Iranian management protocols for the waterway, the semi-official Fars news agency has said, citing an informed source.

The Fars report came as US President Donald Trump, who is on a state visit to China, agreed with the Chinese leader Xi Jinping that the Strait of Hormuz must be open for the free flow of energy, Reuters noted.

The source told Fars that the move followed requests by China’s foreign minister and ambassador to Iran, with Tehran agreeing to facilitate the passage of a number of Chinese ships in line with the two countries’ strategic partnership.

He had gone to Moscow and some Mideast countries before he went to Beijing. I think he was just in consultation with Iran's partners. Maybe some discussion about Trump's coming meeting with Xi relating to Iran.

The UAE committed a massive mistake joining the Abraham Accords, which at its core was an attempt to build an Arab-Israeli alliance against Iran. That core has become unmistakable now as a result of Israel and the US's war on Iran.

This was a mistake by the UAE because it meant that the Emirates attached itself to Israel's enmity with Iran, which runs deeper than the Emirates' tensions with Tehran, even though the Emirates is right next to Iran, while Israel is roughly 1,000 km from Iran.

But Abu Dhabi is now trapped, and to some extent, the Iran war appears to have been aimed at forcing GCC states to move closer to Israel to seek protection from Iran.

So in the midst of the war, Netanyahu secretly traveled to Abu Dhabi and offered the Emirates Iron Dome protection. This is what Israel considers a major breakthrough in their relationship.

In reality, it is the manifestation of the trap that the Abraham Accords have become for the Emirates.

UAE is an artificial country. It's sold it's soul to the devil.

Geographically and demographically it is doomed if it tries to take on Iran or other countries like Saudi Arabia.

You cannot claim "freedom of navigation" in Iranian territorial waters! It is madness that Iran tolerates this bogus narrative.

Can an aeroplane fly through another nation's airspace without clearance? Does that overflight not come at a real and tangible cost (paid through taxes and other mechanisms)?

The Strait of Hormuz is territorial waters that Iran and Oman can administer and charge for as they see fit.

Innocent passage is applicable, not freedom of navigation.

I know you and others may not like this but technically the Strait maybe passing through Iranian and the Omanian waters but there is no international law which grants Iran the rights to own the Strait. Maybe there could be a law in future but the Strait is not the same as the Panama or the Suez Canals. Even an anti-war great analyst like Chas Freeman says what Iran is doing is illegal but he, like me and others, also acknowledge that Iran was attacked in an illegal war and that should not be discounted either.
