Iran's leadership are stupid. They've given Trump a 60 day extension. It could allow him another 60 days to conduct war without Congress's approval after the period is over but also allows the global market to be relieved from economic pressure temporarily. Giving the stock markets and the US leadership a break to draw up more plans for later while not give Iran what it wants.

Iranian leadership gets really frightened if Trump says we're gonna hit hard tonight and gives in. He was under lots of pressure due to gas prices and global economic woes. He would have actually had to sign a deal soon.

Israel meanwhile is advancing ground offensive plans in Lebanon to further isolate Iran in future.

All Iran had to do was say no deal. Trump would've made a different excuses or the same one to avoid 'bombing Iran very hard tonight ' then pressure would mount on him and others to come to a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz. Instead Iran agrees to open it for 60 days and give US more time.
