So a bit more humility is warranted here.

If I was Iran I would be pepper likely attack vectors with helicopter mines. I have seen them used in Iranian war games years ago so I know Iran has them. They will also be lethal to transport aircraft because they will be flying low.

Pape seems to think Trump will escalate to ground operation like to take Chabahar for a political victory. While Pape is a flaw western “analyst” he has been pretty correct since Day 1 of this war. He just doesn’t see Trump willing to give Iran the concessions required to end the conflict.

I will be the first to admit that modern airpower is extremely effective. When you have strikes hitting pinpoint targets with accuracies in the centimeters, and bunker busters penetrating 60 meters underground, nowhere is really safe anymore. There is limitations in airpower as well but that's a discussion for another time.

But, pulling off a massive ground operation deep inside Iran, inserting thousands of troops just to locate, secure, and haul out enriched uranium, through a bunch of tunnels, and expecting zero casualties and a complete, successful mission? This results only exist in Hollywood fantasy land. I have made fun of Bollywood, but US administration's delusions is creeping up to our neighbour's level.

Honestly, there is a higher probability of Thanos randomly showing up to snap the uranium out of those tunnels in Pickaxe mountain.

They need a temporary landing / staging area. So all efforts must be made to ensure this is not possible within a 20km+ radius of Esfahan. No more private airstrip surprises...

They don't expect zero casualties. For an operation like this, Trump can tolerate some casualties. But there is the risk that something goes wrong and the number of casualties is larger than expected, and that is the major risk for Trump.

Yeah, it's a very difficult mission for them. But lets not overestimate how competent our forces are either, especially our ground forces...

Actually, those pilots are most likely dead . The the distance between the crash site and the extraction point was 100 KM. There is no way that pilot made it that far . The Espehan commando raid was not about pilot rescue , but the enriched uranium.
It failed miserably. There are plenty of discussions about the topic from former Navy seals and Delta guys.
There is without any doubt that the American causualties are much much greater than the 24 ( if you count the helicopter pilots and staged crashes) .

American do not disclose their dead if they are from special forces units.
They operate thousands of mercenaries from companies like Blackwater and many others .
