To me, this "restraint" is why the war is still going on, because the cost to Trump has been low in the areas that are significant to him ie visible material losses of planes, ships etc. The US has the complete freedom to chose a military action at a time and place of its choosing, to perform what ever military action it wants, with no military cost to it from any action it decides to do. This latest round, has been at zero military cost to the USA other than interceptor missile costs.

If you recall all US targets in Irán last months they have been restricted to just South coast of the country.

That is the reason why Irán is not hitting the US Navy ships or bases daily as before.

They just interchange límited strikes and try to avoid casualties.

We will see later results of the Iranian strikes. Seems that at least one missile scaped and hit Jordania.

Just look at how Pakistan handles India. Pakistan hits hard, and is also prepared to cause mass causalities in any exchange with India as it did in Sindoor where it killed many dozens of India

Pakistan has a peer Air force and have nuclear weapons. That gives Pakistán freedom of action that Irán cannot afford right now.

That is the reason why Islamic Republic must build nuclear deterrence to have same freedom of action.

Also a credible Air force would give enough confidence to Irán to escalate confortable, but just up to now, IRIAF cannot operate effectively even in SoH.

I guess, I don't see any need for any restriction on Iran's freedom of movement in conventional warfare against the USA. The USA is not going to nuke Iran because it hits a USN ship, or aircraft carrier. That is not just cause enough for a nuclear dimension.

Even when the missiles were "new" to the USN via their operations in Yemen, the missiles could not actually hit a USN ship. They caused secondary damage of Hornets falling off carriers for sure, and also blue on blue confusion but that was it. If the missiles were technically capable, then at a minimum some should have been able to get through then?

Like I said they have experience with those missiles and USN had a few extremely close calls with an adversary who was using less inferior models or copies being made in house so USN figured out they couldn’t operate within a couple hundred miles off Yemen controlled Houthi lands imagine if the American navy was only 100 miles or less attempting to fight off multiple waves not saying it would be a bloodbath but Iran would have connected by now Iran has shown they can hit targets with precision but a moving ship 300 to 500 miles away is totally different
