The key is the distance to the moving target.
If US warships keep far enough of Iran shore, Iran can't attack them. It's what happened since war started.
In fact, US aircraft carriers dont even dare to sail near Houthi coast since Iran war started, circling whole Africa, to avoid Bab el mandeb strait.
The danger is in sail near to coast.
It's plain to see, but for some reason USA likes to hide and create BS about this, like when they say they didnt resupply warships due to logistic centers damaged in Gulf ports, what it's a stupid thing, they can buy supplies everywhere in GCC, but they didnt because they would be near to Iran coast and easily targeted by Iran.
Iran is restraining, yes, they dont do all they can, they didnt launch nuclear dirty bombs to Israel cities and they could easily.
But I think there is no restrain against warships, they would sink if they could, remember USA sinking Iran warship in the first days of war and killing one hundred Iranian sailors.
And Iran has targeted US warships and launched attacks, but they didnt be able to sink anything, yet.
