No, but if ultimately agree to their same demands after suffering that destruction that you could have just agreed to before the war then that makes you retarded.

Iran thought it had leverage against an attack and likely thought it could close the Strait better than it actually did.

Either way Iran has lost. For a country that is so cautious in foreign policy and pragmatic, the way it treated US/Israel vs Russia/UK/Turkey who have done many worse things to Iran over the course of last 200 years points to a massive hypocrisy and set of double standards.

In reality after 1979, Iran should have tried to maintain relations with all parties instead of acting like the Taliban. That is how the Chinese operate. Now having relations doesn’t mean being best friends or allies, it just means not boxing yourself in a diplomatic corner, where in the future resuming such relations brings existential questions of your rule.

Iran boxed itself in a corner since Israel and U.S. have become multiple times more powerful since 1979 and anti Imperialist countries no longer exist in the classical form.
