Pakistan was declared an instant pariah (by USA and others) when it first tested its nukes. So was DPRK (and it STILL is). It is ONLY NOW that Pakistan has partially manoeuvred Trump into some semblance of mutual respect - and it is only partial, and likely temporary. As for DPRK, they have some cult status but are still a complete pariah state.

The famous "grass eating" quote to acquire nukes was no joke.

Iran knows full well testing nukes will cost it. But it is simply unwilling to pay that price that Pakistan and DPRK both paid in the past. I'm not even sure why, unless they are genuinely deluded by these fatwas.

Iran was happy submitting to USA in 2015 JCPOA.

This war was started by USA, not by Iran.

I would argue that the cost Pakistan paid for becoming nuclear was less than Iran did for not having a nuclear bomb and their little dance. I think the saving grace was that it was done under the Indian umbrella, so diplomatically there was only so much they could throw at Pakistan in that scenario.

That’s basically how Iran has operated for last 250 years regardless of its form of governance (Monarchy or Theocracy or Democracy).

Iran isn’t a world power and thus has to balance the world powers against each other. The only difference in 21st century is that China is another foreign power Iran has to balance.

You need to be discreet about these things, but unfortunately iranian commanders cant seem to keep their mouths shut for even 2 mins putting a large target mark on the country.
