I think you are on to something here. The have been reports of Israeli attacks on "Syrian airbases" for last few months, ever since fall of Assad regime. I think that was part of the subterfuge and Israel is actually using a Syrian airbase close to Iraqi border to launch its aircraft at Iran. This is being done with full cooperation of new Syrian regime, as a test case for it by the West.

Can someone explain why the night time missile attacks and not in the day?

Israeli planes/drones can identify Iranian launchers in the daylight. Possible, but far far more difficult to identify the launchers during the night.
