Iran had the chance to go nuclear long ago. Unfortunately, Iran has a supreme leader who is too idealistic. His fatwa on nuclear weapons is unrealistic. He terms nuclear weapons haram. I hate to say this, but the supreme leader has held Iran hostage. The people now want revenge and a proper response to Zionist attacks. How will Iran reply apart from drone and missile attacks when it doesn't possess a string air force and nuclear weapons? No doubt that the nuclear weapons would have discouraged Israel to attack Iran in the manner it has.

What you’d call ‘chickened out’ was a very prudent thing to do. If America is threatening to invade Iran now ( pretty sure there wouldn’t be an invasion ), it would have most certainly invaded back then.

Iran is in a much stronger position today than it was in 1995-2003.
America is relatively in a much weaker position today than it was 1995-2003.

Correction, brother, the U.S. isn't in a weaker position militarily; the economy can be talked about, but it's not within the scope of this thread.

When we talk about the U.S., it's not just by itself when it goes to war, it's a collection of countries from NATO aligned with other nation states.

However, Iran, in its current state, is much weaker and more exposed, as we are seeing currently.

If people are only realizing this now, then its on them what kind of blind fools they have been. The main game in intelligence in the last 20 years has been electronic, and with social media and phones, it became even more easy. HUMINT mostly took a backseat. FB/WhatsApp has been sharing data with intel/law enforcement for last 15-20 years. Same with Tiktok except its data goes to the Chinese govt. That was primary reason for the allergy to Tiktok you have seen in America.
