My idea of Pakistan is what I experienced during Zia time, uncompromising, no nonsense, peace within (while the rest of the world can fk off), India under the thumb, nationalism based on Islamism. So when Musharraf screwed it all up in his enlightened moderation (for which we are still paying our dues), it made me extremely bitter. Worst day of my life, I was walking in Covent garden to get my lunch, and the news breakout that Pakistan have taken U-turn in Afghanistan and left Afghan Taliban under the bus. My childhood friend, I lost him to those daisy cutters.
When nations go from one pole to other, on the mood swings or personal ideas of movers and shakers, it has got consequences. Its not a matter of just switching on and off.
So in case of Iran, they need to fast track their young blood if they want to preserve their revolution.
