They could've fought both but the price would've been the destruction of Lebanon akin to Gaza seasoned with a civil war that would last decades. They had no choice to step down.
HZ is playing the long game. It will eventually have to take control of the whole Lebanese state apparatus. The zionist West has been very prudent in designing the political setup of Lebanon after the last civil war in order to avoid just this. The fractured setup of separating the state into religious and ethic factions guarantees a constantly weak and dependent state. They were also prudent enough to do the same to Iraq.
Unless this malaise is remedied then there is little chance for these countries to be fully independent in the lines of the IRI.

He has been salivating from his mouth for 8 years on a chance to get the Nobel Prize. And if he DOES manage a ceasefire here, along with the India/Pakistan ceasefire, then it might melt the hearts of the Swiss enough, to give him one. Its a good strategy. Don't have too much faith in Pakistan political or military leadership when it comes to their loyalty to America.

For couple hundred million they would sell all those secrets that allowed them success n not only compromise Chinese tech but also compromise PAKISTANS security n expose their weakness to Israelis.

Anything Americans learn they will pass to Israelis to help better deal with Pakistan in attack or defend situation n that's the real reason they want to see our capability. When u shoot above ur weight u put Israel in danger n gears start cranking to check mate u.
