Rohani is the worst example of someone that Iran needs for reforms. Rohani is the reason that we are at the mercy of the Europeans now, for them not to trigger the snapback mechanism.Iranian system has space for reforms, for example if someone charismatic and skilled politician with good platform and popularity is new president, than silent revolution could be achieved relatively successful in the system itself...Khatami and Rouhani had plans for substantial reforms in Iranian system institutions and apparatus, but their concepts were unsuccessful objectively, nothing connected with Iranian politics...
To have new structural projects and doctrines, first they have be created, elaborated, discussed etc...
One of advantages of Iranian diversity is that coordination means more voices, more ideas and insights...
But under attack every system is forced to be conservative, and you can't expect develop of civil sector in abnormal conditions...
Iranian system is far from being politically conservative. Religiously conservative? Yes. But I doubt that's what you meant. The Iranian political system is chaotic in the worst possible way.
Why do you need to visit a foreign leader to decide what you should do? Has Russia ever done anything for us? This is something you should decide internally, and Iran has a national security council for this very reason.IR leaders are just stupid, that's all. Where else should Araghchi have gone to? Nominally we have a strategic partnership with them. I'm sure they did try to convince Iran not to strike back because they value "Israel" over Iran. IR has isolated itself, tried to have the best of both worlds, and refuses to leave NPT because they are stupid. It has nothing to do with Russia or China.
I don't think they're stupid. They're compromised.
