First reports of a US ship hit by Iranian missiles near the coast of Bahrain fear for the lives of at least 30 American sailors.

I don't think Iran and Hezbollah were prepared for Hamas operation on October 7. There must have been severe misunderstandings between Hamas and Hezbollah /other parties. Hamas probably thought they're prepared and willing to participate in a war around Palestine. Hezbollah probably did not think Hamas would undergo such a operation without a big provocation of different political climate. But operation's success was likely hingent upon surprise.

It seems like October 7 was not a coordinated act. We don't know who provoked it. The ultimate culprit may be someone no one suspects, or it may be an extremist faction within Hamas that acted independently.

Israel senses that and is talking advantage of it to flex muscles and make some gains.

Yes, Israel is using this as an excuse to do what it has always wanted: to annex Gaza and expel/kill the Palestinians living there.

There is no extremist faction within Hamas. Hamas is serious about a armed struggle against Israel to liberate Palestine. It's not bluffing or doing so for domestic consumption and to remain in power like a business model. The others weren't serious and caught off guard. Hamas miscalculated in thinking it's allies were serious about a armed struggle or was betting on dragging them into it.

It seems everyone is in agreement in keeping Gaza isolated and Israel is just killing and provoking for its war machine. It doesn't want a war, imo, but will do whatever it can get away with. And lack of red lines by Iran/Hezbollah is what resulted in this.
