It is quite embarrassing for Israel that after months of carpet bombing the entirety of north Gaza and their ground invasion, Hamas was still able to fire a large salvo of rockets towards Tel Aviv on the first minute of 2024. Even Israeli estimates suggest they have only killed c. 5,000 Hamas fighters so far (and 20,000 more civilians). With a total membership of 20-40,000, Israel's dreams of totally destroying Hamas are impossible. Their genocide just ensured future recruitment of Hamas will be bigger than ever.
Honestly I don’t think 5000 or 7000 is right I think the Israelis are basically counting any man over the age of 16 to 50 as a fighter I do think personally a few thousand fighters and several thousand more wounded, sorry I don’t think a few dozen rockets is large though they are definitely not going to be able to launch hundreds not even including thousands as in the beginning of the war.the only thing Hamas going for it right each group or squad can operate independently there doesn’t need to be centralized command they fight to the last man standing, in the end of this war the Hamas leadership are going to have to do the math either to tell sinwar and the Hamas leadership to leave quietly in the night to allow a new Palestinian leadership to take fruit or just govern in the tunnels with no one to govern.
