2-2 draw against New Zealand, Iran needs to work on its defensive play. New Zealand scored those goals with minimal effort.
Shit is an understatement. He needs to be sent to a gulag.the bad news is that the team is old and the manager is shit
as usual Iran lets the other side hit first then responds to a stalemateShit is an understatement. He needs to be sent to a gulag.
I don't think age is the real issue here. We played physically, we ran well, our players fought bravely and never seemed out of breath for most of the match.as usual Iran lets the other side hit first then responds to a stalemate
our team is too old they have no legs. just terrible all over the pitch. New Zealand are the lowest ranked team in the World Cup, so this was a horrible result. but who knows, maybe we will have a miracle win against Egypt.
we have the oldest team in the competition, Ghoddos was dead and we sat back for most of the match and pressed in moments only. Even Taremi now plays more like a number 10 and tried to sprint once and gave himself cramp. athleticism of our team is very bad. not to mention zero composure where they clear the ball as far away as possible (usually straight out of play) under the slightest bit of pressure.I don't think age is the real issue here. Ghalenoi had no plan for either defense or offense. The space between our lines was huge, our center backs were a mess, leading to both goals by New Zealand. We mostly had just a single plan in the second half, trying to cross the ball from the left side all the time. Nearly every ball from Iran came from the left side by Ghaedi, except for our 2nd goal. New Zealand knew it was our plan and neutralized it easily. Ghaedi failed to penetrate deep into New Zealand defense from the left side, not once but multiple times one after another. It was clear that it was a futile plan.
We will most likely say goodbye to WC 2026 with just this point against New Zealand. I don't see Iran winning against Belgium or Egypt, unless Belgium plays as absurdly as it did tonight and Egypt decides to be kind to us.
Yes, but I don't think it's the age of the players that causes that. Our players were overcompensating for the lack of good coaching by running as hard as they could to cover the holes in our defense. I think if we can find the stats of the match to see how much they ran, our players fought really hard and ran far too much to fill the holes. They won most of the balls in the air, against New Zealand which was a tall, physical team.we have the oldest team in the competition, Ghoddos was dead and we sat back for most of the match and pressed in moments only. Shoja and Ghoddos were both a disaster. Shoja all over the place and Ghoddos no legs to run anywhere losing his man. And no one marking Chris Wood (though we dealt with him better in the second half).
Ghayedi did quite well when he came on in the second half, brought some energy. Rezaein was our best player.
Belgium is a very strong team but if we defend with our lives we can steal a win against Egypt, like we did against Morocco in 2018. it's not likely, but I will watch with hope while there is still a chance.
