This is sickening! But where's the Alawite officers that were suppose to protect Syria? I won't even ask about the president and his family! I still can't figure out what deal was struck for Syria to end up in this situation but it was, is and will remain a horrible one. Blame the Alawaites for the not succeeding and creating their own state.

Living under Sunni extremists this was always going to be the most likely outcome. Sunnis don’t get along with any other religions. This has been proven in Iraq under Saddam, in Lebanon during the civil war, in Yemen, Afghanistan, etc.

Neither normal Sunnis want this, nor their governments, nor their extremists. Most Sunnis see the Israel-Palestine conflict as an ethnic one, and not a holy one. Iran sees it as a oppressor-oppressed and holy conflict, and the rest of the region has moved on from that narrative because there's no point to it.

People don't really matter though, and that's something people forget because they've taken political liberalism for granted.

People don't matter unless there is a political elite that wants to use them to attain power or unseat others. What matters is what the leaders of the Sunni countries have decided, and who actually controls the world.

Hitler tried to overthrow the bankers world order and Germany was utterly destroyed for it. Why is Iran, a country with even less ability, trying to poke this bear?

They have two routes- get the reformists in power and get Iran to willingly give up all of its deterrence in exchange for vague and wishy-washy promises of removal of some sanctions at some vague date in the future as long as Iran bends over even further every month (and then they'll attack and carve Iran up a la Syria)...

If the reformists are flushed out and Iran guns for a nuke (lost cause from my view but they may try) they'll just take Iran on right then and there. They're opening up two fronts- Azerbaijan and Kurdistan. This is why Iran is moving the capital to the southeast. If Iran gets bogged down into either of these conflicts, it will lose and will be partitioned. Iranians are in such denial, we are about to go extinct and we don't even take this seriously.
