Damn, so they are targeting every Iranian naval asset. Looks like the American submarine was camping for the Iranian ship to exit India's EEZ. It was sunk in international waters.

This is why there was no point to taking the ships out from harbor. Would have only resulted in death of crew.

Should have sailed into Chinese territorial waters or Pakistani.
Either way, I doubt the crew thought they would be attacked on the 5th day of conflict.

You're right. I told from the very first. IRIN is not a combat Navy. They were fullfilling military missions but not combat readiness or real capability. And IRGCN without Air covering cannot perform much better.
But you guys must be proud of them. They sacrified themselves with honor. Like japanese before and russians in front of Japan in Tsushima.

The President revealed that the vessel, reported to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 4th of this month, had requested permission to enter a Sri Lankan port either on the 4th or 5th. He emphasised that Sri Lanka, as a neutral state, must manage such situations in line with international conventions, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The crew members 53 officers, 84 cadet officers, 48 senior sailors and 21 sailors
will be transferred to Colombo using Sri Lankan naval vessels. After the crew’s evacuation, an essential team, comprising Sri Lankan naval personnel and necessary members of the ship’s crew, will jointly sail the vessel to the Trincomalee Port area.
