When Saddam launched chemical weapons against Iranian population centers in the Iran-Iraq war, there were several Iranian revolutionary guards/generals that pleaded with Khomeini to develop those weapons (as a deterrent) and he refused.

Iran needs a military take over. Someone in the class of Soleimani (unfortunately he was one of a kind in contemporary modern Iranian history) to lead the nation.
