Vietnamese leader suddenly dies

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phuc Trong, passed away today at the age of 80. Nguyen Phuc Trong began serving as the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 2011 and has been the highest leader of Vietnam since then.
The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam only issued a notice yesterday regarding the health status of General Secretary Nguyen Phuc Trong, and announced that President Su Lim would be responsible for guiding the party's work previously led by Nguyen Phuc Trong. On June 20th of this year, Nguyen Phuc Trong held talks with visiting Russian President Putin. Vietnamese television footage showed the 80 year old Nguyen Phuc Trong sitting in a chair throughout the meeting, including shaking hands with Putin.

A big sad day for the whole country. He is respected (and loved) by most Vietnamese.

However, his health has been becoming deteriorated since 2019.
