ISLAMABAD – A police raid over suspected illegal liquor sales in an Islamabad commercial-residential building turned into far more disturbing investigation, with authorities alleging that multiple studios inside the premises were being used to produce Adult content.
A report by Independent Urdu said operation was carried out on August 9 after police received information about the alleged sale of illegal alcohol from the building. During the search, police reportedly recovered a large quantity of beer and other alcoholic beverages.
The investigation took dramatic turn when cops searched other floors of the building and allegedly discovered several studios where porn content was reportedly being produced. According to police, these activities had not been taking place for just a few days. The alleged operation had reportedly been running for more than six months, raising serious questions about how such a network continued to operate from the building for such an extended period.
Authorities said around 500 foreign nationals from China, Vietnam and Indonesia were present in the building when the operation was conducted. Police detained 284 people, including 60 women. Because of the unusually high number of detainees, the building was temporarily declared a sub-jail.
Some arrested persons were transferred to Adiala Jail, while Chinese and Indonesian nationals reportedly remain at the building. But the raid has also raised a crucial question: Who was actually running the alleged network?
Police told that several key figures allegedly linked to the network managed to escape during the operation. Identifying those individuals, determining their roles and establishing how they managed to evade arrest have now become major aspects of the investigation.
Ministry of Interior has cancelled the visas of all 284 foreign nationals detained during the operation. Authorities have also reportedly issued them 12-day one-time exit permits. Despite the arrests and visa cancellations, major questions remain unanswered.
As the probe is underway, officials are looking into the racket as Who facilitated these people’s stay and activities? Who financed or operated the alleged studios producing obscene content? And, most importantly, did any influential individual play a role in allowing the alleged network to operate for more than six months?
