ISLAMABAD: After Pakistan shared a new proposal by Iran with the US, President Donald Trump on Friday said he was still not satisfied with their offer to end the Middle East conflict, which started after the US and Israel struck Iran on Feb 28.

The text of the proposal was handed to Islamabad on Thursday evening, the state-run IRNA news agency reported on Friday. Pakistan officials also confirmed that they had shared the proposal with the US, but refused to divulge its contents.

“At this moment, I’m not satisfied with what they’re offering,” President Trump said late on Friday night. Asked why he was unsatisfied with the Iranian offer, he said: “They’re asking for things that I can’t agree.” He gave no details.

Iranian proposal rejected by Trump would open Hormuz strait before nuclear talks, Iran official says

An Iranian proposal so far rejected by US President Donald Trump would open shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and end the US blockade of Iran while leaving talks on Iran’s nuclear programme for later, Reuters quotes a senior Iranian official as saying.

Speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss confidential diplomacy, the senior Iranian official said Tehran believed its latest proposal to shelve nuclear talks for a later stage was a significant shift aimed at facilitating an agreement.

Under the proposal, the war would end with a guarantee that Israel and the US would not attack again. Iran would open the strait, and the US would lift its blockade.

Future talks would then be held on curbs to Iran’s nuclear programme in return for the lifting of sanctions, with Iran demanding Washington recognise its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes, even if it agrees to suspend it.

“Under this framework, negotiations over the more complicated nuclear issue have been moved to the final stage to create a more conducive atmosphere,” the official said.

Trump says will soon review new Iran proposal, but not likely to accept

US President Donald Trump has said he would soon review the latest peace proposal from Iran, but cast doubt on its prospects, AFP reports.

“I will soon be reviewing the plan that Iran has just sent to us, but can’t imagine that it would be acceptable in that they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to humanity, and the world, over the last 47 years,” he said in a post on his Truth Social platform.

President Donald Trump said on Saturday that renewing military strikes against targets inside Iran was "a possibility"

Iran has received a US response to its latest peace proposal, Iranian state-linked media have said.

Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson said the response, delivered via Pakistan, was now being reviewed, according to Tasnim news agency.

According to Al Jazeera, the Iranian plan, submitted to the US via Pakistan, has three main stages and aims to transform the ceasefire into an end to the war within 30 days.

It envisions a pledge of nonaggression, including from Israel, to ensure there’s no return to war and an end to fighting throughout the Middle East, Al Jazeera said, citing sources. The first phase would gradually open the Strait of Hormuz and lift the US siege on Iranian ports. Tehran would take charge of dealing with sea mines.

Iran confirms US peace proposal now being ‘reviewed’

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei says officials are reviewing a US counter-proposal to end the war, Al Jazeera reports.

“The US message was received through Pakistan, and I will not discuss the details of the issues raised at this time, because these issues are still under review,” Baqaei told reporters at a press conference.

He said the US practice of making “excessive and unreasonable demands” means the proposal “is not easy to review”.

News reports in the media about negotiations over its nuclear programme are “mostly speculation”, Baqaei added.

“The issues raised about enrichment or nuclear materials are purely speculative, and, at this stage, we are not talking about anything other than stopping the war completely, and the direction we will take in the future will be determined in the future.”

Unconventional negotiating tactics will not deter Iran's resolve, says foreign ministry

Iran’s foreign ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the country’s national interests, Tasnim News Agency reports.

It stressed that “unconventional negotiating tactics by adversaries will not deter its resolve but instead strengthen its determination”, according to Tasnim.
