The UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) has warned that Gaza faces an “incredibly high” risk from unexploded bombs as displaced families begin returning home under the ceasefire.

UN Mine Action Chief Luke David Irving said the enclave is “littered” with explosive remnants, with at least 328 casualties recorded since October 2023, though the real number is likely much higher.

UN teams have so far identified 560 unexploded munitions but say comprehensive clearance remains impossible due to restricted access.
