Israel signs €3 billion arms export deal with Greece, defence ministry says

Who said:

1.It performed "not that well"
2.Greece is getting "downgraded" versions?

You guys are so desperately trying to talk trash about anything yahoodi at all. I mean,it reaches a point where it's simple bias.
Even with sanctioned news that came out of Israel - we could tell how badly it failed. The airports were full of Europeans leaving Israel and the failure of the shield was clearly evident. You wont be able to silence members on here.
Considering all the crap the west post about Israel - you aint in any position to tell us of bias. It was CRAP IN TINY Israel - yet Greece reckon they will be dandy with this? Lets agree to disagree. Achilles shield. lol

So your country had only this option? Did your boys sit down and think yep its gonna have to be Israeli coz they have shown us a great advert of their capabilities? Then lets call it Achilles shield for good measure. Who makes these cracking decisions bro?
That doesn't prove anything. No air-defence system is 100% effective. We've seen even air defence systems face penetration or limitations in real-world conflicts, including Chinese-origin systems in countries such as Pakistan, Iran (not sure, but there were some reports) and Venezuela.

Israel is a good example as well. Its highly advanced, layered air-defence network has achieved interception rates of 90% or higher but it has still had missiles and drones get through.

However, people will take it if more than 90% protection is available, for example, the Israeli one.

I agree, Indians used Israeli SAMs very effectively.......

There was a war,of course they'd leave.

Since last year I've encountered two camps on this subject, both here and on Greek defence sites(at the comments). One that says they performed quite well and the other which claims they performed badly.

I believe they performed very well considering the amount of ballistic and cruise missiles and drones they had to deal with. Let's face it,Iran had been preparing for more than 15 years, stockpiling all that. Remember that no AA system in the world is 100% succesful and the last few years the battlefield keeps evolving.

Our AF wouldn't have picked them if they hadn't checked them thoroughly. Some will say it was a political decision,it's not quite political. Was it economic? That's a big factor, but also our guys probably saw quality and considering the alternatives were too expensive, went for that.

Look at the latest conflict with Iran. The Iranians got through this impregnable defenses system at will. Imagine if Iran took the gloves off thet would have been shafted. Now the Greeks want a bit of what they have? Crazy.
Then look at the name?? Achilles shield?
Agreed. It performed not that well during the war against Irán, how the hell can works better with degraded versions in a much larger country like Greece?.
Good luck with the new stuff.
I have reservations about this viewpoint.

Objectively speaking, Israel's air defense system is a very good product compared to other advanced air defense systems globally.

During the Iran-Israel war, Israel's air defense system performed exceptionally well in combat. In that environment, the air defense systems of the United States, Russia, China, or any other country might not have been superior to Israel's.

Every weapon has its own limitations. Every defense system has its saturation point. When the attack force exceeds this range, it's no longer a matter of the system's inherent performance.

For example, a tank's armor can defend against any assault rifle attack. But this also has a saturation point. If thousands of rifles continuously fire at a single point, even the strongest tank armor will be penetrated.

Israeli long term plans call for replacing America with Greece, India and African countries, after building up their economies and tech capabilities and building weapons factories there. They will be Israel's strategic depth.

This is good decision by Greece. They are getting combat proven IADS for half the price of similar European systems. (Hence more systems) US and Israeli AD had a success rate of 85% against Iranian more than thousand Iranian BMD. No other Russian or Chinese BMD has been put to such test ever.

Let's take It with a grain of salt.

1.- We will never know the effectiveness of their systems—especially since they began imprisoning people who were video-recording the effects of the Iranian missiles.

2.- These are export versions, which implies that both the search sensors and the missile sensors will be downgraded versions.

3.- Greece's geographical position: it shares hundreds of kilometers of border with Turkey, and its extreme proximity to the Turkish border means that Turkish missiles would rarely follow a ballistic trajectory; instead, they would take a low-altitude path that makes tracking and interception much more difficult—not to mention the use of cruise missiles specifically designed to evade ballistic missile defense systems.

In my opinion, this is a political sale with limited real-world impact.

This might become quite a headache for Turkey.

If this step had been taken in the 2000s, given Turkiye's situation at that time, it would have been a headache

But as of 2026, this step is simply wasted money

Turkiye now has the strongest fire power in NATO after USA
Achilles Shield never can stop thousands of Turkish kamikaze Drones , guided Munitions , Cruise Missiles , supersonic and hypersonic Ballistic Missiles in a war

Türkiye currently has more than 20 different types of alternative Weapons in its inventory, with ranges from 40 km to 2000 km to hit everything in the Greek mainland and islands

--------------------------------------------------------------------

btw , Greece will need THAAD or ARROW-3 to intercept upcoming Turkish hypersonic MRBMs TAYFUN B4 and CENK

Israel-Iran distance : 1200-1500 km
Iran only could use expensive MRBMs against Israel

but Greece-Turkiye distance : 200-250 km
Turkiye can use all kinds of its own kamikaze Drones , guided Munitions , Cruise Missiles , supersonic and hypersonic Ballistic Missiles

We could completely eliminate Greece's air defense missile arsenal, even with just the first batch of 2000 kamikaze drone swarm attack ( cost effective ), which they purchased for €3 billion

Does this country have no military experts, or do they think the war will only last a day or two ?

The number of ballistic missiles and suicide UAVs launched by Iran at Israel, and the ultimate destructive effect on Israel, are vastly different. These issues are difficult for governments and media to conceal.

Two factors contribute to this phenomenon:
1. The accuracy and destructive power of Iranian weapons;
2. The success rate of interception by Israel's air defense system.
2.- These are export versions, which implies that both the search sensors and the missile sensors will be downgraded versions.
This rule applies to arms transactions between any two countries worldwide, without exception. Therefore, it cannot be used to explain individual transactions.

Offense and defense are a spiral of rise and fall. It's a dynamic variable, not a static constant.

If you acquire a new offensive weapon, your enemy will find a way to acquire a new defensive weapon, or an even more powerful new offensive weapon.

This is certainly a "political sale." Whether it will have any real impact depends on many factors.

IMO. When will Israel be able to begin actual deliveries? This is a very difficult question.

That's one of the reasons. Many Greeks in the defence community were wondering why not SAMP/T and MICA VL,because we already use Aster-30 on the FDI frigates and MICA on the Rafale. Others wondered why not the German Iris-T family.

The answer came this summer officially, when the MoD said we've checked other options from USA and Europe and the cost would have been 3 times higher,to 9+ bln. euros

Why not go for a cool million?
