Israel signs €3 billion arms export deal with Greece, defence ministry says

I don’t think it will have much of an effect on Türkiye. If Greece feels safer that way, its make sense for them.

But Greece now needs to start producing its own weapons, ammunition, or at least contribute something to the systems it buys. Greece spending billions of euros and all that money is going abroad. If they invested even a small part of that huge arms procurement budget into their own defense industry they could manufacture in many areas. These dont even have to be expensive systems with long R&D cycles like radars, avionics, manned aircraft and helicopters or the costly systems used in land and naval platforms. They could simply produce the things the army buys the most and will continue to buy the most. In the defense industry. In my opinion they shouldn’t be that far behind Israel, the country they buy these weapons from. They could get support from so many countries, yet they dont.

If it wants to compete with Türkiye it has to produce. While even by producing it would be hard to catch up the mindset of buying weapons and competing against Türkiye only harms Greece. And it already is.
I agree with you. Greece absolutely needs to look within and reinvent its defence base .. but the real question is whether they can. The brains aren’t the issue. Greece has a highly educated population, strong engineering tradition, and plenty of people capable of building serious systems. Yet they still suffer heavy brain drain, and that’s where the feasibility collapses.

A country of 10 million, shrinking every year, simply doesn’t have the demographic depth to compete on wages, retain talent, and simultaneously build a defence‑industrial workforce. You either pay high wages to keep your best people from leaving for Germany, the UK, or the US .. or you rely on cheap labour to scale production. Greece can’t do either at scale. Türkiye can, because it has the population mass, the industrial base, and the labour pool to support long cycle defence manufacturing. That’s a structural advantage you can’t “policy” your way out of.

This is why, realistically, Greece ends up buying off the shelf. It’s not because they’re incapable .. it’s because the demographic and economic foundations don’t support a competitive defence industry. Reinvention sounds good, but without population, labour, and retention, it’s almost impossible to execute.

Israel's air defense system is insufficient even for its own needs. Even if it were to begin full-speed production now, it would take many years to meet its own requirements. So, how will they deliver the systems to Greece?

Türkiye's missile-guided munition-kamikaze drone production capability is minimum 5 times greater than Israel's air defense missile production capability

Greece is a buyer, while Turkiye is a country that produces its own.
It is almost impossible for Greece to beat Türkiye in a long term of war .. even Greece's air defense missile stockpiles could run out in a few days.

Even the American made missiles ( 500+ units ) ATACMS ,, SLAM-ER , HARM , JSOW , HARPOON Block2 that Türkiye has already in its stockpiles would be enough to eliminate Achilles Shield in a war

But that's the WHOLE POINT! Our doctrine is purely defensive and we never could compete with Turkey in a long war. In our time and with the alliances and organizations both our countries are in,other countries will most certainly interfere to stop a conflict. Either NATO,the EU,the UN or the US on its own or even the GCC,some Arab coalition, you never know. What at least Greece is logically and should be logically expecting and counting on,is someone to either interfere directly or mediate for the war to cease.

We all know that it's impossible for a country like Greece to fight a prolonged war against Turkey. We're not Ukraine. We're not Iraq vs Iran.

A serious military analysis

For €3 billion, you can only buy a limited number of air defense missiles ( max 300 missiles ) because air defense systems, including radars and other components, are so expensive

on the other hand , Nowadays, kamikaze drones and guided munitions are among the most effective weapons and their production is much easier, cheaper and more abundant

Real military experts can easily do this calculation

BAYKAR creates new generation attack paradigm attack packages consisting of 2,000 kamikaze Drones

Selcuk BAYRAKTAR ( Chairman of the Board of BAYKAR Technology )
“Imagine a package of 1,000 Mosquito kamikaze drones at the front. Behind that, imagine 500-600 Mızrak Kamikaze drones. And at the very back, we're talking about an attack package of 300-400 K2 kamikaze drones. In a sense, we are defining the world's new generation attack paradigm.”

No need even other 20 types of Turkish kamikaze Drones , guided Munitions , Cruise Missiles , supersonic-hypersonic Ballistic Missiles

If Greece holds this opinion, it is making a huge mistake

The war won't last a few days ... if they attack on critical facilities in Turkiye

Turkiye is not a country under the control of other countries, and if anyone wants to harm Turkiye, Do this calculation and then start a war.

We will not end the war until we take back those islands ( which will host Israeli-made Air Defense Systems BARAK-MX and DAVID's SLING )

Greek and Turkey war would end the same way China and India war ended in 62. Big powers will come in threaten the side that is winning and force them to stop or else they collapse their economies or even threaten nukes.

Yeah yeah Turkey is not under the control of others,Turkey is super power,no NATO can defeat Turkey,no coalition, this is the Turkish century.

Exactly that, there you go. And that's how you keep the balance. I know Mr.Turk above will shout "Nobody can tell Turkiye what to do",but when heavy sanctions from all sides start hitting and the lira starts going down worse than the Iranian Rial, then all the "i'm independent supercountry with my own defence industry" talk will go to lalaland.

Tough talk is meaningless when the global powers and EU can come down on you like a ton of bricks and then you are struggling to buy basic groceries

The whole world saw what happened in 1974.

Nobody could stop Turkiye in 1974 ... USA ,Soviet Union, The EU

Turkiye never jokes. Turkiye never shies away from war. We've been waging hybrid warfare since 2013 anyway in Syria , Iraq , Libya , Somalia , Eastern Mediterranean

Today, Turkiye is almost 20 times stronger and richer than it was in 1974

In 1974, Turkiye produced almost nothing; now Turkiye has the second-strongest firepower in NATO after USA .... Thanks to Turkish Defense Industry

Those who intend to hide behind big Powers after attacks on Turkiye , They will face another fiasco and damage will once again be disappointed.

Israeli AD systems failed to intercept Pakistani Fatah series rockets in May 2025 war.
