LONDON: Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has visited a construction site where he said gallows will be built to execute Palestinian prisoners sentenced to death under a controversial law approved earlier this year.

In a video posted on Instagram on Wednesday, Ben-Gvir stood at the site and said: “Gallows will be erected here,” describing the facility as the fulfillment of a promise to establish an execution site for prisoners convicted of what Israel defines as terrorism.

Ben-Gvir also said that the facility would include viewing chambers where relatives of victims could watch executions.

“If the terrorist comes out alive and arrives here, there will be viewing chambers. Victims of the crime will come, just as they do in the United States, to watch the murderer being executed,” he said.

The site is reportedly under construction in central Israel, although its precise location has not been disclosed. Israeli reports said that the facility was intended to house prisoners sentenced to death and to carry out executions by hanging.

The move follows the Knesset’s approval on March 30 of legislation expanding the use of the death penalty in terrorism-related cases. The law was introduced by Ben-Gvir’s far-right Jewish Power party.

This is the kind of people Muslims have to deal with in particular the Palestinians and yet the Arabs continue to have chumma chami with them and not stand with fellow Muslims to counter this scourge.

'You're a clown': Ben-Gvir faces verbal assault from residents during visit to northern Israel

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited a village in northern Israel on Tuesday and was met with insults and ridicule from local residents.

Ben-Gvir toured the streets of Basmat Tabun accompanied by heavy security and faced a barrage of curses and harsh criticism from residents over his performance.

"You are making a fool of yourself," residents shouted at him. "You're a clown. Everyone is laughing at you. You are a champion of failure. They didn't even give you a visa to the United States." Residents heard in a video even called the minister a "terrorist," saying, "A minister convicted of terrorism, you're a terrorist. Go to a mental institution - you shouldn't be here. You incite terror."

The video published Tuesday came against the backdrop of two other recent incidents in which the Arab public voiced harsh criticism against Ben-Gvir and Israel Police.

Earlier this week, residents of Umm al-Fahm claimed that Israeli police forces raided a wedding in the city and ordered guests to lie on the floor. Video footage from the incident shows police officers with drawn weapons walking among guests lying on the ground.

Wedding interruptions by police called 'political stunts'

The police explained that "the activity documented in the video was conducted following suspicion of weapons use during a wedding." They further stated: "Accordingly, police forces and officers operated at the scene to inspect suspicions and locate weapons."
