The Israeli media is questioning the reality of the promises made by Netanyahu regarding the results of the #Rafah operation.. And also wonders about the possible costs of such an operation
The Israeli newspaper "Haaretz" mocked the theory of "undermining Hamas" that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu talks about, claiming that his entry into the ground operation in the city of Rafah is an absolute necessity in order to achieve this theory in practice.
In an article published on its pages today, Wednesday, “Haaretz” considered that, after the supposed entry into Rafah, and after the “intensive killing” that “Israel” can carry out, Hamas will still retain between 40,000 and 50,000 combatants, This number, according to the newspaper, will constitute a “permanent threat to any military force that will remain in the Gaza Strip.”
"Haaretz" adds that the situation in the Gaza Strip will turn, at its best for "Israel", into a situation similar to the West Bank, where "a fighter carrying a single weapon or a girl carrying scissors or a knife is enough to shake the feeling of security."
Haaretz concluded by asking about the price that Israel could pay when it entered Rafah.
In the same context, US intelligence agencies confirmed in a joint report early last March that Hamas may resist for years despite the war, and that “the conflict in Gaza is likely to have an impact that will last for generations.”
The head of the US Senate Intelligence Committee, Mark Warner, confirmed in a hearing for the heads of the US intelligence services that “Israel’s war against Hamas demonstrated the difficulty of using military force alone to eliminate a non-governmental entity rooted in the civilian population, especially since it is very adept at using underground tunnels.”
